Exhibition text
The block print was created with the intention of presenting obsession.I intended to interpret obsession by making an art piece that would have various components of symbolism symolyzing the obssession one may have.In this art piece i choose the obsession of obtaining the perfect body as i felt a personal connection with this topic and i could relate to it. |
Meaning behind the art piece
Ever since we received this art project I knew I wanted to pick obsession as my main idea .as i knew i could relate it to something I'm obsessed with which is taking the human structure and transforming it into a art piece by getting more definition threw out aesthetic body building.in my art piece i wanted to represent obsession threw using various symbols such as placing the aesthetic man on a clock as i wanted to represent the dedication that is required the time consuming it is and I also placed the man attached to chains into the clock as you have to be consistent and do it every day in order to achieve that aesthetic physic you desire as you require this aspects and more that is why I chose obsession as you have to be obsessed with it you can't just start one day and stop the next once you start there will be no stopping you have to make this be your obsession. I also placed and tried to center the man in the middle in representation of his body being the main theme of the image and the symbols being aside as people will just see the results but they don't see the rest such as the time the dedication and hard work put into the body.
process
1)start to brainstorm on ideas into thinking of how to visually interpret my idea throughout demonstrating the main theme at the same time
2)start sketching on the idea I chose
3)trace the graphite to the block
4)after start carving the places you chose to stand out
5)then place the ink on the block and place a sheet on top
6)pass on top of the sheet a Japanese barren
7)carefully take the sheet away from the block
8)repeat process various time till achieve a decent print

throughout the block print project I had to do multiple trials as for some of the prints I made I either placed to many or insufficient amount of ink.

Artistic inspiration
for my artistic inspiration I chose Karl Schmidt rot luff as he is an artist who has done similar process like the one we were exposed to and I wanted to center my idea on how his art pieces that his made with wood how his art shows how well defined he cut the edges to obtain his print

Reflection
Throughout this project I found it challenging as it was not easy to get a clean print but I am glad we did this art project of the block print it helped get better in doing it I am pretty satisfied with my art piece as I feel more than art I represented something I could connect to.
